Love the Real Catholic heroes & Vitamin J.
Apparently, G, "conversating" is a word?
Good topic. I personally try not to use words that some people have a problem with. The more disciplined I keep my mouth, the less chance there is for me to use words in a sinful manner.
One definition of modesty that I've heard is acting in a way that doesn't make others feel uncomfortable around you. Although as Christians that's hopefully not going to apply to us all the time ("saints make people feel uncomfortable"), I think that applies to our mouths.

lol...it took me forever to do the Real Catholic Heroes because I couldn't stop laughing at Gerard's singing while recording. Glad you liked it!

I fully endorse Jose’s recommendation of Planet Earth. The series has already been shown on the BBC in the UK and it had huge viewing figures. The episode with the elephant-hunting lions will stay in my mind for ever
.
In the UK each episode lasted an hour (with no commercials) and the last ten minutes of each episode showed you how the film makers got their shots. You cannot believe the lengths these guys went to. One episode featured polar bears and the film makers were living in a wooden shack at the north pole for months. One day the film makers were in this rickety old shack when a huge hungry polar bear decided to check them out - looking for lunch
. Scary.
God has given us a big beautiful world.
If you live in the UK you can download high definition clips at

No offense Kev, but didn't care for "Vitamin J". I thought it kind of cheapens the Eucharist. And it reminds me a little of Dane Cook's blasphemous joke about the Eucharist. Michael Jackson and "Jesus Juice" come to mind as well. I know this wasn't your intent so please don't take my comments too harshly.

"Real Catholic Heroes" was hilarious. I can't stop laughing. The word "Poop!" is so funny. You should subliminally hide it within all the future RCH songs.
Is cussing really necessary? When some people cuss it is done in a way that enhances the point that they are tying to convey. I hate it when someone almost pauses to decide weather they should cuss or not and do it anyway. The only times when I can't help but cuss is when I'm almost in an accident while driving or when I ride the "Millennium Force" at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. So I think generally cussing is unnecessary and we Christians should try our hardest not to do it. I did hear a priest cuss when I was little. I don't even know if he realized he did it.

Cade,
What part of the "commercial" did you find to be "cheap"? It was certainly light-hearted, but I don't think it was cheap at all. In fact, there were some really good recommendations in there!

The commercial itself wasn't cheaply made or anything. I just don't like the idea of comparing the Blessed Sacrament with a sports drink. It's more of a gut-feeling I get when people market Jesus as a product. I'm not trying to dis anyone, though it might come off as such (I still love ya Kev). I'm just curious though...do any of you find
Dane Cook's bit
light-hearted? Where do we draw the line?
Christ's gift of the Eucharist is not "cheap"... it cost him dearly -- it cost him his life.

I went and checked out the Dane Cook bit. It had me laughing in a couple of points, mostly the non-Eucharist stuff. I've done the peace bit at least once.
As for the Eucharist stuff, I don't think that I am really offended. There's so much hate and crap in the world that it's hard for me to sit here and be mad at Dane Cook for coming up with his comedy bit. One thing that DID strike me was that he never once said the Eucharist wasn't the body of Christ. He didn't say anything bad about the Eucharist, or the priest (your move, holy man LOL), or anything like that. As far as I can remember, he didn't make any theological jabs at the Catholic church. He just took a slightly irreverent (maybe more than slightly), comical look at what most Catholics take for granted. Any serious Catholic shouldn't be offended by this. If I can watch that Dane thing and still revere and love the Eucharist just as much as anyone else or as much as I ever did, does it really matter?
I think we as Catholics tend to be too serious (just a general statement there, not singling anyone out). In some cases, we absolutely need to take a stand against something, especially if it makes serious attacks on the substance of our faith or morals. In other cases, will it hurt us to laugh at ourselves a bit?
I'm not saying that this applies to your comments, Cade, but I know too many Catholics who can't take a joke because they are too busy judging the moral state of the person delivering it. I haven't seen anything else by Dane Cook, but this didn't offend me one bit, in fact it got me a little hungry for the Eucharist...maybe I'll head over to daily Mass tonight!

Trust me when I say that I'm not all about being PC, but I do have my limits. I'm not going to lie; I did laugh at some of the jokes too, but that one about the Eucharist was a zinger. I'd like to hear what others think of it.

Cade_One … no offence taken mate. As ever, you make some very valid points.
The analogy of vitamins and the Eucharist has been on my mind for a few years so when I heard the Pro-Dogma commercial on show 45 it gave me the idea for a Vitamin J commercial.
Hands and Feet is all about speaking to the world in terms the world understands and that is what I hoped to do with the Vitamin J commercial. It wasn't intended as a joke.
Every day I take a vitamin supplement to help my body stay strong. The word “Vita” is Latin for “life” and receiving the Eucharist gives us Catholics strength in our lives to go out into the world on our mission.
I'm not offended by the Dane Cook routine, I just don’t think it is funny. As Javier commented, Cook isn’t mocking the Church, he is mocking the huge number of people who go to Mass every week and who really don’t understand what is going on. And we should include ourselves in that number because none of us can fully understand the miracle performed before our eyes in the Eucharist.

RESPECT! (as Ali G says).
Hey kev, Great response. I appreciate it. I never knew that the Latin word for “life” is “Vita”. Your analogy makes sense.
Thanks.
